The Honda GB500 was the ultimate production cafe racer before cafe racers started getting some love once again.
They only made this version for a couple of years, back in 1989 and 1990, but if Honda were to dust off the old tooling and start making them again, they’d corner the market. At the time American riders found them a little too small and a touch too slow, and the line didn’t sell well.
Featuring a classic vertical single (thumper) powerplant, front disc brake, upswept header-muffler combo, spoke wheels, a large square tank and a cafe racer signature solo seat, this bike was an out-of-the box knockoff of the classic British cafes. They had more than just looks as the GB500 also delivered the typical Honda reliability. Built to crank out 43 HP and a weighing just 391 pounds, this bike would get lots of stares today’s showroom floors, attention that eluded the line at the time.
